![]() I have been on both ships and have enjoyed them immensely. Do keep in mind that itineraries are subject to change, so there's always a possibility that ports of call my be canceled or changed. Other people are not as interested on the ship as long as it takes them where they really want to go. An extra day is not necessarily a good thing if you're not enjoying the ship you're on. Ask yourself: am I cruising for the ship first or the itinerary first? Some people would be willing to sacrifice a better itinerary in order to sail on a cruise line that more closely matches their personality. Whether these things are important to you is a matter of personal choice.įinally, the itinerary. Royal is not a more "elegant" cruise line but it undoubtedly blows Carnival out of the water in terms of professional entertainment, ship layout and decor. You can be more active on Carnival and you can be more sedentary on Royal. BUT the good news is that you can still do either one on both cruise lines as they both accommodate both style of cruising. You're more likely to find me with a drink and a burger plopped by the pool watching the hairy chest contest on Carnival than on Royal, and you're more likely to find me staying active, moving around the ship, and trying new and healthier cuisine on Royal. You're very likely to find just as many young people on the Independence as you will on the Conquest, so I wouldn't even consider the perception of Carnival being for younger people to be a deciding factor.īut with that said, the focus on the onboard activities is different, with Carnival focusing more on sedentary entertainment and Royal on more active entertainment. My observations after sailing on both of these cruise lines several times is that the demographics on a Caribbean cruise are basically the same. I found both ships still have a lot of inside cabins available and thought there may be a price drop after final payment due date.Īnother question I have is, is there a major price difference on the Shore excursions offered on these two ships? Please also let me know if my current booking strategy is too risky. However, if most people here recommend Royal's IOS because of its quality, or Carnival conquest because of its price and better itinerary, I then will change my mind and settle down the booking ASAP. If one cruise line has a major price lift and I will probably go for the other cruise line. If one cruise line has a major price drop and I will probably go for that cruise line. My current preference is to wait for the price change. I have been waiting for a price drop until the final payment due date (should be around 2/24/15). Could you please give me some recommendations as which one we should give a shot for the first time? Therefore, we are also happy to pay for anything extra that is worth it. However, this will be our first cruise and we do not want to take a risk to be on a cruise, hate it, and do not want to cruise any more. My wife and I are still graduate students at school and we would like to keep a tight budget (also try to spend less onboard and also on islands). less crowded and have fewer drunk people onboard than Carnival Conquest More luxurious and many people have said "you get what you pay for"Ģ. Carnival seems to have a better itinerary: one more island stop at Grand Turk San Juan, PR stop at 7am-2pm for Carnival conquest, whereas 4pm-11pm for IOS.ġ. Cheaper and has one more day than IOS (though IOS is only about $120 more expensive than Carnival in total and we are happy to pay for this extra money)Ģ. Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas (IOS), 7 day, $91 per day, $1450 in totalīelow are the major pros and cons that I have learned for these two lines:ġ. Carnival Conquest, 8 day, $69 per day, $1330 in totalĢ. I've already booked an overnight flight to FLL on May 10th, 2015 for 10 days and is debating on two cruise options, both are Caribbean-Eastern, inside cabins, departing on May 10th from Fort Lauderdale with similar itinerary:ġ. ![]() I'm planning our first-time cruise for me and my wife (we are at age 28) without kids. ![]() I've done a lot of research already and I know there were similar posts before on the forum, but I am still debating now.
